Most contemporary jewellery is cast nowadays. Antique and vintage jewellery has a higher level of quality than new modern jewellery since it was always handcrafted or, at the absolute least (in the case of newer antique jewellery), hand-finished.

Since jewellery was not mass-produced (or even readily available to the general public) until recently, it is quite improbable that you will ever locate a duplicate of an antique or vintage item. Identical matches were quite hard to find.

Mining gemstones and precious metals requires enormous resources, making it difficult to create jewellery in an ecologically sustainable manner. When you buy antique and vintage jewellery, you become a conservator rather than a customer.
